Frequently asked questions

What is Salesforce Data Cloud in one sentence?

Salesforce Data Cloud is Salesforce's unified customer data platform (CDP) that ingests data from Salesforce clouds (Sales, Service, Marketing, Commerce, etc.) and external sources, resolves identities to a single customer record, and serves the unified profile to Agentforce, Marketing Cloud Engagement, Tableau, and other consumers.

Is Data Cloud the same as Customer 360?

Data Cloud is the data platform; Customer 360 is the marketing umbrella term Salesforce uses for the connected suite of clouds. In practice, 'Customer 360' often refers to the unified-profile capability that Data Cloud actually provides.

How is Data Cloud licensed?

Per-row consumption (data ingestion, profile rows, segmentation queries) with packages starting at a few hundred thousand dollars per year and scaling into the millions for large enterprises. Pricing has been complex and is evolving; expect 6 to 12 weeks of commercial modeling for any serious deployment.

Does Data Cloud replace a separate CDP?

For Salesforce-centric customers, often yes. Data Cloud subsumes the role of mParticle, Tealium, Segment, and Treasure Data for organizations where Salesforce is the system of record. For non-Salesforce-centric organizations, it can still serve as a CDP but the integration overhead is higher.

What is the role of Data Cloud for Agentforce?

Data Cloud is the de facto data layer for Agentforce. Without Data Cloud, Agentforce reasons over per-cloud records (Sales Cloud opportunities only, Service Cloud cases only, etc.) and cross-entity context is missing. Most Agentforce deployments include a parallel Data Cloud investment.

How does Data Cloud handle identity resolution?

Data Cloud's identity graph matches records across sources using configurable rules (exact match, fuzzy match, machine-learning models). The resolved Unified Individual record is the addressable entity for downstream consumers. Identity resolution accuracy depends heavily on the quality of inbound data.

Is Data Cloud built on Snowflake?

Architecturally, Data Cloud uses Snowflake-style data sharing patterns (with Snowflake as a major partner) and has Zero Copy integrations with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, and Redshift. Data Cloud is not Snowflake, but interoperates with it.

How does Thinklytics work on Data Cloud?

We scope Data Cloud as a foundational investment, usually 12 to 24 months in phases, with the first phase focused on identity resolution and the unified profile that Agentforce and Marketing Cloud need. See [Salesforce Data Cloud consulting](/insights/salesforce-data-cloud-consulting-2026).
