Frequently asked questions
What is Tableau Pulse in one sentence?
Tableau Pulse is Tableau's AI-powered metrics-monitoring product, launched in 2024, that delivers personalized natural-language insights about user-subscribed metrics via Tableau Cloud, Slack, email, and Tableau mobile.
Is Tableau Pulse the same as Tableau?
Tableau Pulse is a product inside Tableau Cloud, not a replacement for Tableau. It uses the underlying Tableau data sources and semantic layer but presents metrics through a personalized push-notification interface rather than a dashboard.
How is Tableau Pulse licensed?
Bundled with Tableau Cloud licenses (Creator, Explorer, Viewer) in 2026. There is no separate per-user fee for Pulse. The licensing change in 2025 included Pulse in the base Cloud tiers.
Does Tableau Pulse work with Tableau Server?
Not in 2026. Pulse is Tableau Cloud-only. Tableau Server (on-prem or self-hosted cloud) does not have Pulse. This is one of the migration drivers for the broader Tableau Server-to-Cloud shift.
How does Tableau Pulse compare to Power BI Copilot?
Pulse is metrics-monitoring (subscribe to metrics, get personalized insights). Copilot is report-authoring and Q&A (chat with the data). They solve different problems. See [Tableau Pulse vs Power BI Copilot](/insights/tableau-pulse-vs-power-bi-copilot-2026).
What metrics work well in Tableau Pulse?
Single-number metrics with clear dimensions (revenue, conversion rate, pipeline coverage, customer count) work well. Composite metrics or metrics requiring multi-step reasoning (cohort retention curves, attribution-weighted contribution) work poorly. Pulse is tuned for the dashboard scorecard layer, not the analyst-deep-dive layer.
Does Tableau Pulse require Einstein or Data Cloud?
No. Pulse runs on Tableau Cloud's underlying compute. It does not require an Einstein subscription or a Data Cloud subscription. Tableau Pulse and Salesforce Agentforce are complementary but independent products.
How does Thinklytics work on Tableau Pulse?
We scope Pulse rollouts as part of Tableau Cloud engagements, with a focus on selecting which metrics to publish, defining clear dimensional rollups, and integrating Pulse into Slack and email workflows. See [Tableau Pulse vs Power BI Copilot](/insights/tableau-pulse-vs-power-bi-copilot-2026).
