Is Microsoft Fabric a fit for healthcare?
For organizations already on Power BI Premium and Azure, often yes. The OneLake unification, the Power BI Direct Lake mode performance, and the F-sku licensing model all work well for health-system analytical workloads. The HITRUST and HIPAA posture is the same as Azure.
How does Fabric compare to Snowflake for healthcare?
Snowflake wins for organizations with significant non-Microsoft tooling or for workloads that need its cross-cloud Iceberg support. Fabric wins for Microsoft-stack-aligned organizations where Power BI is already the analytical surface. Can Fabric replace our existing Synapse environment?
Yes, but the migration is a real project. Expect 4-8 weeks per Synapse workspace including testing. The trap is environment parity: secrets, linked services, and managed identities all have different shapes in Fabric.
Should we migrate from Synapse to Fabric?
Microsoft has signaled the long-term direction is Fabric, and Power BI Premium per Capacity (P-skus) is being deprecated through 2026 in favor of F-skus.
